Kintsugi Eggshells
As I’ve developed these eggshell pieces over the last Few years, I’ve fallen more in love with what they represent: imperfection as true value, flaws as
something to be celebrated, revered and viewed
as beautiful. Using the Japanese art of kintsugi
(mending broken pottery with gold or silver
lacquer and therefore honoring its history and
imperfections) as my muse, I create each eggshell
with this philosophy in mind. Taking a fragile,
unassuming eggshell and elevating it to something
beautiful and meaningful.
Not broken, stronger and more beautiful than ever.
I think this is a good way to think about ourselves,
others and our relationships as we age - not to try
to look like our former, younger selves but to
embrace our "breaks and flaws" and to honor
them and see the beauty in them. Let’s not cast
away imperfect things. Let’s take what’s fragile or
broken, care for it and repair it, and then revel in
its beauty.
